Glimmers & Glows is a new monthly column I’m starting for paid subscribers (this first one is free). I’m using the term “glimmer” as coined by Deb Dana in her book The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy. Glimmers are small moments when our nervous system is regulated, which helps us to feel safe and calm. Sometimes these small moments can expand into bigger moments called Glows.
Hi everyone! New column alert! I’m debating on if we want this to be weekly or monthly, so please fill out this poll:
Anyway, this column will go like this: each week or month I’ll share my own glimmers and glows, and I invite you to share yours in the comments. Sound peachy? Here are some examples:
My glimmers for the week:
Savoring my coffee each morning (cup of half caf/half decaf)
Ventral bookending with my weighted blanket after work each day
Snow, always. (definitely expands into a glow)
Needle punching—and just crafting in general
A sweet text from A
Deleting Twitter and already feeling lighter
Deleting my private Instagram
Somatic therapy
Lemon bars from Ancora
Watching Vera with Mamma
What are your glimmers/glows?
Love this.
My Glimmers recently:
1. laying in bed after waking with no alarm clock.
2. kitty cuddles
3. Getting my cats presents (Lol they are really wonderful in my life and deserve to be spoiled)
4. A hawk flew really close to me on a walk
Thank you. I’m a big fan of Vera with tea too. Glimmers today:
1. Hearing the snow geese return
2. The fog that made the sunset go pastel
3. Dinner with my mom
4. Oatmeal for breakfast
