cuddling with my cats is so grounding & absolutely helps me (co)regulate my nervous system πββ¬ if i'm struggling with freeze in particular, i try to think of one thing i can do to make their day better. sometimes i end up crafting with cardboard or jumping around with a feather wand or spending time on the catio with them & enjoying some fresh air π
That sounds lovely, Karina! Ugh, I wish I could have a cat or a dog--can't since my mom is allergic. Maybe someday tho! Animals are so helpful with co-regulating!
love your list. i too rely on morning pages, and getting out in nature (itβs the ocean for me π), and moving my body, mediating, breathing. have you checked out the app insight timer? itβs free and has lots of guided meditations (plus live yoga classes and lots more). i actually teach on there and have some recordings up already. but my styles i think would not work with what is best for you, as i do body scans and counting breaths. i really appreciate you being open about the calming techniques that work for others that donβt work for you. it is inspiring me to create some new recordings for people who donβt enjoy/canβt enjoy safely the types of techniques that are my go-tos. thank you for expanding my thinking! π
Hi Holly! Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I wish I lived near an ocean! That would be incredibly healing and grounding! I have the app, Insight Timer, and do use it from time to time. There is a lot of great stuff on there.
Your list is my list, and that makes me feel more connected to you and the others who experience this sh*% all the time. But let me add one : Go to the dog park, sit in the middle, and let these happy, slobbery, goofy creatures pull you into a happy present state. Sometimes theyβll just check you out, others will totally ignore you, but some days thereβs a slew that must sit in your lap, that must lay on your feet, that must wrestle right next to you. Itβs the best and it always pulls me up and out. π€

Oooh dog park is a good idea! I sometimes think if I could have a dog, I would have such a better life!
This article is so good. Thank you for sharing the tips.
I also recite out loud poems that make me feel safe and happy. It is very helpful to me.
Have an awesome day! :)
Oooh reciting poems sounds lovely! I'll have to try that. Thank you for reading and commenting <3
Oh my gosh yes Happy Color! It is my go to calming app. I also have my rotation of comfort shows. I need to find my cozy books.
Yes, "Happy Color" is so great. I initially got it and was unsure I would use it much, but I pretty much use it every night to de-stress.
Thatβs how I use it too
Yes, I have done color therapy when on long driving trips....etc....
Awesome! Yeah, I love coloring so much.
