Long hair was a staple for most of my life. Alongside the decentering of being desired / a certain kind of woman, cutting it short at last (the shortest version a pixie cut last year) has been a boon in another way. It’s a reminder of the freedom of fluidity. I hadn’t realized how much my long hair was a stagnation, a single perspective.
